The best directory depends on the relationship being researched.

Address research belongs in the assessor, tax, GIS, and reverse-directory channels. Older family, community, or military connections are more likely to appear in library, newspaper, archive, and genealogy collections.
Solano County Government Directories
The Solano County contacts directory lists departments, office addresses, phone numbers, and emails. It covers County Administration, County Counsel, District Attorney offices in Fairfield and Vallejo, the Public Defender, Registrar of Voters, Resource Management, Planning, Building and Safety, Public Works, Environmental Health, HazMat, Parks, and many other services. Sample entries show how the directory works: Police Administration appears as a Police unit with a public phone and email; Abandoned Vehicles appears as another service contact; Accounting and Accounts Payable appear under Finance. A blank title does not mean the result is incomplete because some entries represent a service unit rather than one employee.
Note: If a name is absent, call the listed department because the countywide directory is organized by office and Vacaville may list a unit instead.
Solano County Education Directories
The Solano County Office of Education staff directory is the central county education contact list. SCOE supports the Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield-Suisun, Travis, Vacaville, and Vallejo City unified school districts. The California Department of Education directory record adds the county office phone, superintendent, and business official information. District-level official lists can then narrow the contact to a school or program.

Use it for adult public contacts. Student personal data is not part of an open staff directory. Older school connections may instead be found in yearbooks, the older public schools directory PDF, library catalogs, or local newspaper collections.
Solano County Record Index Directories
Several public records act like people directories even though they were created for filings. The Solano Official Records Search accepts a name, date, or document number and can identify grantors, grantees, lien parties, trustees, and other names on recorded documents. Its portal states index coverage from January 3, 1950 forward. Images do not display online, so the index points to a record that must be ordered or viewed through Recorder channels.
The Fictitious Business Name search works as a local registrant directory. Search modes include FBN name, file number, a person's first and last name, a corporation or LLC, a trustee or trust, filed dates, and confirmation number. The portal explains that California FBN statements are county records meant to reveal who does business under a fictitious name. There is no statewide or national FBN registry.
Voter and custody data require more care. A voter file is available only through a qualified application, while jail tools are public-safety resources with accuracy limits. Their appearance in a master coverage table does not turn them into casual resident lists. Rules and formal request channels belong with Solano County public records access.
Solano County Property Directories
Property research begins with the Solano Assessor Property Search, which accepts an Assessor Parcel Number, or APN, or a street address. Owner-name search was not exposed on the verified public page. Entering less text can broaden the results, and the county advises dropping street types and directions. The related tax search accepts a ten-digit PIN or APN, or at least three characters of a street name.
The Solano County Parcel Viewer adds parcels, address points, roads, city boundaries, and aerial layers. It helps distinguish an incorporated city parcel from unincorporated land. That boundary can decide whether permits and code records sit with a city or County Resource Management.
A useful trail is address to parcel, parcel to recorded deed, then deed parties to earlier documents. The recorder index can search a name, but the assessor path is verified only for APN and address. Keeping those two search methods distinct prevents a failed owner-name search from being mistaken for proof that no property record exists.
Solano County Business Directories
Business and professional people directories span county and state systems. The county FBN portal connects a local trade name to its registrant. California's bizfile business search covers corporations, LLCs, and limited partnerships and can show public entity details, filing history, agent information, and reported managers or officers. The SOS also publishes an active notary listing, while Solano County Clerk keeps local notary oath filings.
The Department of Consumer Affairs License Search covers many regulated fields and reports whether a license is current, expired, suspended, revoked, or otherwise disciplined. Its boards span nursing, pharmacy, cosmetology, engineering, funeral and cemetery work, fiduciaries, psychology, security services, veterinary practice, and more. Contractors and real estate appraisers use separate official systems, so no result in DCA may simply mean the profession routes elsewhere.
A timely privacy change affects the FBN directory. Since January 1, 2024, Solano filings no longer require a registrant's residential address. Current statements use a business mailing address and business address instead, and those fields cannot use a post office box, postal mailbox, or mail-service address. Older and newer entries may therefore expose different kinds of address detail.
State Library Solano Directory Search
The California State Library city and county directory collection covers every California county. Its directory database can be searched by county, city, year, publisher, and title. A year range uses a colon, such as 1990:2005. Exact Solano County years were not verified in the database output, so researchers should search the catalog rather than assume a complete run.

Historical Solano County People Directories
Reverse directories list an address first and then the occupant or subscriber. The society notes normal Tuesday and Thursday hours, appointment access, and seasonal closures, so checking before a visit is wise.
Historical Articles of Solano County adds searchable newspaper material maintained by the Vacaville Heritage Council and Solano County Historical Society. Names may appear in obituaries, civic news, business notices, and community events. County historical records date to 1850, but the Historical Society says the archive was moved to publicly inaccessible Point Richmond storage in 2015 after a lost lease. A record can exist even when normal counter access does not.

Older sources may also use Patwin-derived place names such as Suisun, Soscol, Ulatis, and Putah. Search both the modern city and the historical place name in newspapers and directory catalogs.
For a veteran reunion or family history search linked to Travis Air Force Base, use public base history, local newspapers, veteran groups, cemetery records, and National Archives military resources. Restricted personnel files are not public directory material. The geographic route should expand the search without crossing a privacy line.
